Skiing is a great sport that gets you outside, is great exercise and is something the whole family can do together. Whether you’re a downhill pro or a beginner looking to hit the slopes with caution, there are two ski hills within easy driving distance from Halifax where you can hone your slalom skills.
Ski Martock – The closest ski hill to the city is Ski Martock. Martock is a quick 45 minute drive from Halifax to Windsor. The facility features a downhill area served by a quad chair lift and two T-bars, a beginners area served by two rope tows, and 5.5km of cross-country ski trails.
The hill features a half-pipe and terrain park for snowboarding and freeskiing. It is the second largest ski hill in Nova Scotia, second only to Ski Wentworth.
Ski Wentworth – Ski Wentworth is about an hour and a half outside of Halifax. Wentworth is 815 vertical feet high with 20 alpine trails, a 1/2 Pipe, terrain park and a variety of trails that will challenge any skier from beginner to expert.
From the beginner Chickadee and flowing tree covered South Side trails, to the Explosion and gladed steeps around the mountain, you'll always find some challenging terrain at Ski Wentworth – regardless of your ability.

Over the years, Ski Ben Eoin has evolved into a reputable and top-notch skiing and snowboard facility. The facility has 11 runs with the longest run measuring 1300 m (4200 ft). The hill has a vertical rise of 149 m (490 ft).
